Kingsley Traylor, 89, of the 1000 block of N. Lexan Crescent, died Sept. 27, 1998, in his home. Mr. Traylor was a native of Norfolk. He was an optician for Traylor Optical Co., the business his father founded in 1924, and retired after 60 years with the company. In 1948, he became president of Traylor Optical and began to expand the company throughout the Tidewater area. During his career, he was active on many boards and associations, serving as a past chairman and national director for the Guild of Prescription Opticians of America and past president and secretary of the Virginia Society of Prescription Opticians. Other memberships included the American Board of Opticianry, the Better Vision Institute, the International Academy of Opticians, the International Guild of Opticians and honorary master of the Ophthalmic Optics. His past civic memberships included the Cosmopolitan Club, St. Mary's Infant Home, Boy Scouts of America, Norfolk and Virginia Museums, the National, Virginia, and Norfolk Chambers of Commerce. He was also a past member of the Consolvo and Seaside Tents of Circus Saints and Sinners and current member of the Norfolk Yacht and Country Club. Mr. Traylor donated much of his time and energy to the charities and associations associated with the prevention of blindness. He was a member of the National and Virginia Societies for the Prevention of Blindness and served on the Board of Directors for the Norfolk Host Lions Club. He also served as a deacon and trustee for Knox Presbyterian Church in Norfolk. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Marion Oliver Traylor; his daughter, Mary Kingsley Traylor Hart of Norfolk; his son, Harry Oliver Traylor and his wife, Anne, of Norfolk; his brother, Harry E. Traylor of Richmond; six grandchildren, James R. Hart Jr., Timothy T. Hart, Marion H. Forchas, K. Kingsley Hart, Chris Traylor and Mark Pfaehler; and five great-grandchildren. A chapel service will be conducted at 11 a.m. today, Sept. 30, 1998, at H. D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk Chapel, by the Rev. James Nowell. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery.
