NORFOLK - Salvatore J. Tretola, 101, of the 7700 block of Restmere Road, passed 
away July 21, 2011, at Province Place of Maryview. Born Nov. 26, 1909, in New York 
City, Sal was one of nine children born to the late Joseph and Antonetta Tretola. 
He was predeceased by his loving wife of 40 years, Mary Demma Tretola. Sal is 
survived by two sisters, Antonette Phillips of Portsmouth, Theresa Tretola of 
Portsmouth; and many nieces and nephews. Sal served his country during World War 
II in the Navy, then went on to work as a barber for the Navy Exchange, where he 
retired after 25 years of service. A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, July 
25, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Entombment in the mausoleum at St. 
Mary's Catholic Cemetery will follow. The family will receive friends from 6 to 
7:30 p.m. Sunday, July 24, at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk Chapel. The 
family would like to thank the caregivers and staff at Province Place of Maryview 
and Heartland Hospice for their loving care and support. In lieu of flowers, 
donations may be made to the American Cancer Society. Online condolences are
