A native of the Berkley section of Norfolk, he was a son of Lawrence Holbert and Mrs. Olive Virginia Marshall Tucker. From 1932 to 1947 he was employed by Norfolk Naval Shipyard. He was with Henry Walke Co. from 1947 until his retirement in 1975. He was a member of Corinthian Masonic Lodge 266, John Walters Royal Arch Chapter, and Norfolk Elks Lodge 38. Other survivors include a son, John Russell Tucker Jr. of Norfolk; two sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Tucker Marks of Altavista and Mrs. Emma Tucker Miller of Taylors, S.C.; and a brother, George Holbert Tucker of Norfolk. The body was taken to H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, Norfolk. A funeral will be held Monday at 2 p.m. in St. Mary’s Cemetery by the Rev. James Rizer of St. Bede’s Church, Williamsburg, and the Rev. Thomas Quinlan of St. Mary’s Church, Norfolk. The family requests that flowers be omitted. Memorial donations may be made to St. Mary’s Infant Home, Norfolk, or the American Cancer Society. The family will be at 131 Fayton Ave., Norfolk.
