She was born Nov. 3, 1919, in Norfolk, the tenth and last child of Gesualdo Esposito and Olimpia Mosca Esposito. She graduated from Sacred Heart Catholic School in 1933, and from Maury High School in 1937. She married John R. Tucker on Sept. 21, 1939, and was blessed with a most happy marriage for 40 years before his death on Nov. 30, 1979. They had one child, John R. Tucker Jr., who could not have been more fortunate in his parents. She survived all of her siblings, Albina Esposito (1895-1982), Gesualdo (Tony) Esposito (1898-1963), Henry Esposito (1899- 1975), Theresa Esposito Morris (1906-1985), Alfonso Esposito (1908-1986) and Joseph Esposito (1909-1971). Besides her son, she is survived by two cousins, Dr. Alfon Mosca, of Charlottesville, and Helen Bazemore, of Virginia Beach. She was a Roman Catholic, a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and of its ladies' auxiliary Saint Martha's Circle. Her son hopes he causes no offense when he lists, with thanks from the heart only, a few of her friends who meant so much to her, Betty Stoakley (1919-1997), her best friend for almost 70 years; Virginia Peacock (1918-1995), Betty's sister; her godchild, Sherry Painter; Treet Stoakley, Betty's daughter, along with her daughter Katie; Mary Walker, card player and shopper extraordinaire; and Mary Denning, Rosemary Gordon, Isabel Schell and Evelyn Dixon, from her several card groups. Joseph R. (Pepe) Yanez was most helpful with business decisions and many other kindnesses. Margaret Tate (1909-2003) was a dear friend who, despite her almost 94 years, died too soon. Finally there were those who helped in time of age and sickness: Jules and Frieda Feuer, Maryetta Dobias and Mark and Debbie Evan, all of whom provided crucial rides to and from doctors' offices and hospitals; Dr. Carlos Silva, pulmonary specialist, who added a decade to my mother's life through his care; Sharon Johnson, her favorite nurse, who brought laughter and joy to our house every time she entered it; and Sheila Kerpelman, nurse practitioner and golden friend, who always brought kindness and hope. Mary Ann Tucker was a good, kind and wise woman who truly loved God and her family. Now she joins them. God rest her beautiful soul. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in Saint Mary's Cemetery by Father Joseph H. Metzger, III, after which the family will receive friends at the residence. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Mrs. Tucker's memory to the Saint Martha's Circle, 520 Graydon Ave., Norfolk, VA 23517. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, Norfolk Chapel, is in charge of funeral arrangements.
