Tunstall, 77, Mortgage Broker, Dies Charles McIntosh Tunstall, 77, member of an old Norfolk family and a well- known mortgage broker here the last 55 years, died Wednesday at 6 a.m. at his residence, 542 Mowbray Arch. A native of Norfolk, he was the son of Dr. Alexander Tunstall and Mrs. Anne Dornin McIntosh Tunstall. His family has been well known in social, civic and medical circles since the late 18th century. HEADED COMPANY Until his retirement 1 1/2 years ago, he was the president of Tunstall- Whitfield & Knight, mortgage brokers. He studied at Norfolk Academy and Annapolis. He was also a student at the University of Virginia two years. In 1904 he began his business career here in partnership with the late Robert A. Wainwright. Life insurance firms he represented over the years loaned many of the millions for construction of a number of large buildings on Granby Street and other Norfolk main streets. Mr. Tunstall was a past governor of the Jamestown Society and at one time was commodore of the Hampton Roads Yacht Club. He was a member and a former vestryman of Old St. Paul's Episcopal Church and a member of Virginia Historical Society, Norfolk Yacht and County Club, Norfolk Philatelic Society, St. Anthony's Club of New York, and Clan Chattan, Edinburgh, Scotland. SURVIVORS He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Jane Byrd Page Tunstall; one daughter, Mrs. Tunstall Fay; one son, Hugh Nelson Page Tunstall; two grandchildren, Charles Alexander Tunstall and Mrs. Norman C. Willcox; one great-grandchild, Miss Jane Byrd Page Willcox; two sisters, Mrs. Junius R. Willcox and Mrs. William S. Graham, and one brother, Richard Tunstall, all of Norfolk. A funeral service will be conducted in Old St. Paul's Episcopal Church Friday at 2 p.m. by the Rev. Walton Davis, rector, and the Rev. Peyton R. Williams, rector of Christ and St. Luke's Episcopal Church. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery. The family has asked that flowers be omitted.
