Richard Nesbit Turner of the 600 block of Pennsylvania Ave., slipped gently and
peacefully into eternal rest in the early morning hours of Oct. 30, 2003,
exactly 90 years from his date of birth. Mr. Turner was a native of Norfolk and
the son of the late John B. Sr. and Cassandra Riddick Turner. He was the husband
of Helen Virginia Turner.

Mr. Turner was retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 35 years of service.
After his retirement he worked as a courier at Norfolk State University and
retired from there in 1989. A faithful member of Bank Street Memorial Baptist,
he was a deacon and sang in the Senior Choir. He attended Booker T. Washington
and served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of Bachelor Benedict Social Club
for more than 50 years and the New Deal Bridge Club.

He leaves to cherish his precious memory his devoted wife of 56 years, Helen
Virginia Turner of the home; a brother, John Butler Turner Jr.; and many loving
and caring relatives.

A funeral will be conducted Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Bank Street Memorial Baptist
Church with Dr. Cedric Kirkland-Harris officiating. Burial will be in Calvary
Cemetery . Viewing will be Monday from 2 to 8 p.m. at Riddick Funeral Service.
The body will be placed in church at 10 a.m. Tuesday. The family will receive
friends at residence. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Endowment
Fund of Bank Street Memorial Baptist Church, 7036 Chesapeake Blvd., Norfolk, VA
23513.
