Mr. Turney was in the 82d year of his age and is survived by his widow and one sister, Mrs. L. L. Lamb, of Chicago. While not a native of Norfolk Mr. Turney had been identified with the city's interests for many years. He came to this city shortly after the Civil War, and for a number of years was engaged in business, from which he retired to devote his time to the Turney Home for Boys, which he founded, and which is one of the city's prominent charitable institutions. Funeral services over the remains of the late Peter Turney were held yesterday [June 9th] afternoon at 5 o'clock at the Boys' Home, No. 268 Bank Street, and were conducted by Rev. Dr. J. Ernest Thacker of the Second Presbyterian Church, assisted by Rev. C. L. Bane of the Cumberland Street Methodist Church. The interment was in Elmwood Cemetery and the following were pallbearers: Honorary-E. Vance, Luther Sheldon, D. C. Whitehurst, J. Holland, W. W. Simpson, H. B. Bagnall, C. M. Cruser and H. L. Page.
