Mr. Twiford was a native of Elizabeth City, N.C., and a long time resident of Norfolk. He retired from the Norfolk Fire Department after 20 years of service and was also a restaurateur, having owned several local establishments. He was baptized in McKendree United Methodist Church when he was 12 years old and was a member of Berkley Masonic Lodge (NU)167. He was the recipient of an award from the Norfolk City Council for outstanding performance. Survivors include his wife, Sue Livingston Twiford; two sons, Stanley M. Twiford and Dennis W. Twiford, both of Richmond; three sisters, Nellie C. Twiford, Mabel T. Twiford and Nancy T. Summerell, all of Norfolk; one brother, Woodrow W. Twiford of Norfolk; and grandchildren, David C. Twiford and Jeffrey W. Twiford, both of Richmond. A graveside service with Masonic rites will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Forest Lawn Cemetery by the Rev. Russell G. Flaxman. Following services, friends are invited to the home of Virginia Creef, 1013 Josephine Cescent, Virginia Beach. Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel, is handling arrangements.
