Mr. Twitty entered the service in 1943, and during his seven years with the U. S. Forces he served in Japan. Funeral services will be held Sunday at First Baptist Church, Berkley, at 1:30 Sunday following the regular Easter Sunday morning service. The pastor, Dr. J. C. Diamond will officiate. Mr. Twitty was a member of First Baptist Church in Berkley. Mr. Twitty lost a part of his right forearm while in the service in 1951 when he stepped on a trip flare (a type of explosive mine). The U. S. Army Rehabilitation Services helped him considerably to overcome this handicap. A native of Dendron, Surry County, VA, Mr. Twitty attended school in Surry county and the Booker T. Washington High School in Norfolk. He received his vocational training in the Army. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Essie Twitty; one daughter, Rosa Mae Twitty; father, Thomas Twitty, Buffalo NY; two aunts, Mrs. Annie Johnson, Norfolk, and Mrs. Rosa Banks, New York City; three uncles, several cousins, nieces and nephews and other relatives.
