He retired from Norfolk Naval Shipyard as a planner and estimator after 27 years. He also worked 19 years for the Virginian Railroad. He was a 50-year member of Naval Masonic Lodge 200, charter member of Kempsville Masonic Lodge 196, member of Scottish Rites, 32nd Degree, and Khedive Shrine Temple. He was a member of Royster Memorial Presbyterian Church, was former youth director of the Police Athletic League of Princess Anne County, served on the board of directors of Commodore Country Club, and was a member of Portsmouth Moose Lodge 898. Other survivors include a son, Don F. Tyler of Virginia Beach; and two brothers, William F. (Buck) Tyler of Norfolk and Walter Thomas Tyler of Suffolk. A funeral will be held today at 3 p.m. in Smith & Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel, by the Rev. Thomas K. Lane and Dr. William L. Wilson. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Shriner's Crippled Children's Hospital.
