"Mickey" Ullrich, 94, died July 7, 2004, at Berlin Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center. Born July 23, 1909, in Moundsville, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late James J. and Mary F. Morgan McKay. At the age of 8, her family moved to Baltimore, where she was raised and where she met and married her late husband Charles. In 1946, they moved to Norfolk, where they remained until their 1981 move to the Eastern Shore. Since November 1997, she had made her home with her daughter and son-in-law in Ocean Pines. Mickey, as she was known to her friends, was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. To her children and grandchildren she was a beloved confidante and cheerleader, supporting them in all of their endeavors. She was a tireless volunteer. Two of her special places in which to do this were the Holy Trinity Elementary School library in Norfolk and the Glen Avenue School library in Salisbury. She was also an active member of The Happy Timers and the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary. She loved reading, doing crossword puzzles, dancing, traveling and doing needlework. She was especially known for her embroidery and handmade quilts. She is survived by one son and three daughters and their spouses, Michael Ullrich and Sara of Berlin, Mary Lou Jones and Michael of Ocean Pines, Susan Fleming and Walter of Chesapeake and Geralyn Swanson and Carl of South Weber, Utah. She had seven grandchildren, Elizabeth Jones, Mary Susan Jones, Patricia Jones Kershaw, Pamela Jones Beaulieu, Erik Ullrich, Laura Swanson Pittman and Stephanie Swanson; and five great-grandchildren, Susannah and Rebecca Jones-Hochmuth, John "Jack" Kershaw and Jacob and Luc Beaulieu. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Charles; a grandson, Brian Ullrich; and a sister, Bernadette Hidalgo. A Christian wake will be held today at Bounds Funeral Home on East Main Street in Salisbury, where friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at Holy Savior Catholic Church on 17th Street in Ocean City. The Rev. John P. Klevence will officiate. Entombment will follow at 3:30 p.m. at St. Mary's Cemetery in Norfolk.
