NORFOLK — Mary Jo Underwood, 68, of the 100 block of S. Ridgeley Road, former 
co-owner of The Golf Shop on Little Creek Road, died Sept. 20,1989, in a 
hospital.
Mrs. Underwood, a native of Norfolk, was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic 
Church. She and her husband, Clarence, also formerly managed the Ocean View and 
Stumpy Lake golf courses.
She was a member of the Greenbrier Ladies Golf Association, Ocean View Ladies 
Golf Association, Suburban Women’s Club and Elizabeth River Woman’s Club.
Survivors include her husband, Clarence Underwood; a daughter, Linda Welsh, and 
her mother, Josephine Cacace, both of Norfolk; and four grandchildren.
A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Saturday in Blessed 
Sacrament Catholic Church by the Rev. Julian B. Goodman and the Rev. John 
Leonard. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery. A Christian wake service will be 
held at 7 p.m. today in H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, Norfolk.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
