A native of Norfolk, Mr. Valentine was the son of the late Frank and Alice Valentine Sr. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and served as a lieutenant. Mr. Valentine returned to Norfolk after his military service and continued to serve his community as a teacher of history in the Virginia Beach and Suffolk public school systems. He later worked as an assistant to the president in many roles with Systems Management Inc. and retired in 1991. Survivors include two daughters, Karen Cannon and Patricia Harden; brother, Herman E. Valentine; and a sister, Dorothy Valentine Valencia; two stepchildren, Patricia Ellis Cotton and Louis Ellis; two grandchildren, Jessica Cannon and Lloyd Addison Ellis; two extended family members, Irene Williams Valentine and Margaret Ellis Valentine; a niece, Vicki Mahone; four nephews, Herman E. Valentine Jr., Bryce Valentine, Allen Valencia Jr. and Marco Valencia; and a host of other loving relatives and friends. A funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday in First Baptist Church, Bute Street, Norfolk. A wake service will be held in Hale Funeral Home from 7 to 8 p.m. today. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery .
