She was a retired teacher, having taught in Norfolk Public Schools and the Reba D. Morton Private School, and was principal of Breezy Point Kindergarten at the Norfolk Naval Air Station. Born in Branchville, Va., she was the daughter of the late Virginia Drewry and Benjamin Pope Woodard. Mrs. Vanderberry was a longtime member of Ghent United Methodist Church, where she had served as superintendent of the Children's Division of the church Sunday school and was a member of the Love and Cheer Circle of the church. She was a graduate of Virginia State Teachers College, now Longwood College, and was a past president of the Circle of Service of Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters. Survivors include her beloved husband of 62 years, Claude F. Vanderberry Jr.; a daughter, Margaret ``Peggy'' V. Savin and her husband Jimmy of Virginia Beach; a son, C. Benjamin Vanderberry Sr. and his wife Anne of Norfolk; a sister, Virginia Choate of Phoenix, Ariz.; four grandchildren, Susan S. Pyatt of Chesapeake, James E. Savin III of Virginia Beach, Weldon D. Vanderberry and C. Benjamin Vanderberry Jr., both of Norfolk; one great-grandchild, Trevor S. Woody of Chesapeake; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Ghent United Methodist Church by the Rev. Don Wilson and the Rev. Robert Watts. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery. The family will be at Cox Funeral Home from 7 to 8 p.m. today for visitation. Memorial contributions may be made to Ghent United Methodist Church, 531 Raleigh Ave., Norfolk, VA 23507 or to Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters, 601 Children's Lane, Norfolk, VA 23507.
