Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - Wednesday, March 10, 1993 
John Albert Vann Sr., of the 5500 block of Indian River Road and formerly of the
800 block of Fremont St. (Huntersville), died March 6, 1993.

Mr. Vann, a native of Como, N.C., was retired from civil service. He was a
member and usher of First Baptist Church Bute Street and was formerly the
treasurer of the Male Usher Board. After retirement, as a hobby, he repaired
discarded bicycles and gave them to the neighborhood children. He was the
widower of Ellen Vann.

Survivors include one daughter, Joyce Holmes of Woodbridge, Va.; one son, John
A. Vann Jr. of Chesapeake; and three grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in First Baptist Church Bute
Street. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery . Friends may join the family at 2176
Allison Drive in Georgetown Colony, Chesapeake. A wake service will be from 7 to
8 p.m. today. Graves Funeral Home is handling arrangements. The body will be
taken to the church at 10 a.m. Thursday.
