He was born on Nov. 14, 1915, in Brooklyn, N.Y. He was the only son of the late R. Maximillian Veith and Paula Ulrick Veith. He was raised in Fairlawn N.J., where he lived until the 1940s. As a young man, Art earned his Eagle Scout at age 15 with two bronze palms. He was also a Scoutmaster and Camp Director. He went on to be an alumnus of Julliard School of Music and Columbia University where he majored in Music. Besides being an avid golfer, his love of music was consumed with the piano and trumpet. One of his initial bands, the "Art Paul Band", featured Frank Sinatra as his featured singer. He served in the Army during World War II as a second lieutenant, and later went on to retire as a Director of Civilian Personal for both the Navy and Coast Guard for a combined 32 years. He was past president of the Travelers Aide Society, and spent 25 years in Bayside Kiwanis, 20 Years as Club Secretary. He was a member of St. Pius X Church for over 40 years and a member of Holy Family Church for the past five years. He is survived by his wife of 48 Years, Lita Panella Veith, of Virginia Beach; two sons, Bob, and his wife, Terri, of Virginia Beach and Ron, and his wife, Lori, of Charlotte, N.C. In addition, they have four grandchildren, Adam Veith and Jonathan DeHart of Virginia Beach and Sarah Veith and Max Veith, both of Charlotte. He will be missed by all of his friends at "The Arbors". The family would like to say a special Thank You to all of the Nursing Staff on the 2nd Floor at Westminster Canterbury for all of their loving care. Art had unconditional love for all four-legged animals, from cats to dogs to horses. His generosity was never ending. The family will receive friends at Holy Family Catholic Church, one hour prior to the Mass, which will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday. Following the Mass there will be a dinner reception in the church hall. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the Kiwanis Emergency Center at Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters or St. Mary's Home for Disabled Children. H.D.
