Vellines, a son of ex-police captain M.J. Vellines, of this city, was terribly scalded and blown eighty feet, receiving injuries which proved fatal, having died at St. Vincent's Hospital at 1 o'clock this morning. Mr. Vellines, who was a boiler-maker by trade, was employed by the Elizabeth Iron Works, of this city. He had been detailed by the manager to go to Money Point to do some general repairing at the creosoting company's plant and yesterday morning when Manager Christian put steam pressure on one of the cylinders to test its capacity, Mr. Vellines observed that there was a leak in it. He went to it and began calking the opening, when suddenly the cylinder parted and he was enveloped in the steam which issued in great clouds from the break. He was brought up to the city in the afternoon on a tug and carried to St. Vincent's Hospital, where he died as stated. ******************************************************************************* With Military Honors Mr. M.H. Vellines, the unfortunate victim of the explosion at Money Point, was a corporal in the Lee Rifles of this city and will be buried by that command with military honors this afternoon at 2 o'clock.
