Norfolk Virginian Pilot February 4, 1950

Eugene Joseph Vellines, 71, husband of Mrs. Josie Estelle Vellines and son of 
the late John Marsden and Mrs. Mary F. Womble Vellines, died at a Virginia Beach 
hospital Friday at 2:40 p.m.
Mr. Vellines was a lifelong resident of this section, residing at 3428 
Westminster Avenue at the time of his death. He was a member of St. Mary's 
Catholic Church. For 20 years before his retirement, some time ago, he was 
employed in the sanitation department of the City of Norfolk. His late father 
was at one time Chief of Police of the City of Norfolk.
Besides his wife, he is survived by three sons, Bert E., Raymond Edward and 
Andrew J. Vellines, all of Norfolk; one daughter, Mrs. L.W. Hewett, of 
Lynnhaven; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and four sisters, Mrs. 
Marie Vellines Faunce, of Calif.; Mrs. George K. Neitzey, of Arlington; Sister 
Katherine Vellines, of Emmitsburg, Md. and Mrs. Maude Vellines Cheatam of Calif.
The body was taken to the H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, pending completion of 
funeral arrangements.

Eugene Joseph Vellines - The body of Mr. Vellines, who died Friday at a Norfolk 
hospital, will be taken from the H. D. Oliver funeral apartments to St. Mary’s 
Catholic Church for services today at 10 a.m. Burial will be in St. Mary’s 
Cemetery.
