NORFOLK - Marie ``Boochie'' Venable of the 1100 block of Georgetown Road died
May 14, 2003 in Leigh Memorial Hospital.

A native of Princess Anne County, she worked in retail sales and was a former
member of New Hope of God in Christ. She enjoyed fellowship with her family at
New Calvary Baptist Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Joyce Jones; a son, Lewis Venable, both of
Norfolk; two sisters, Bernice Carter Wilson of Fayetteville, N.C. and Lenora
Riddick of Philadelphia, Pa.; a brother, Dr. Lewis Barbee and wife Ellen of
Mackeansville, N.C.; two grandchildren, Adream Leary of Michigan and Joy Reefer
of Norfolk; three great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, a
beloved pet ``Teddy'' and two devoted friends, Ailene Bellard and Ledora
Robinson. She was predeceased by two sisters, Lucille Satterwaite and Mildred
Powell.

A funeral will be held Monday at 1:30 p.m. in New Calvary Baptist Church by the
Rev. Dr. Campbell with burial in Calvary Cemetery . The remains will be ready
for viewing from 3:30 to 8 p.m. Sunday. The family will assemble at 1233 Whaley
Ave., Norfolk, at 12:30 p.m. Monday for the procession. The remains will be
placed in the church at 11:30 a.m. Carlos A. Howard Funeral Home, Norfolk
Chapel, www.carlosahowardfuneralhome.com, is in charge.
