Venters, 89, of the 400 block of Nicholson St., died March 25, 1997, in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. She was born and reared in Maysville, N.C., where she attended schools. She was the eldest daughter of Stephen James Hobbs and Sylvia Jones Hobbs. She was the widow of Richard Venters Sr. and retired in 1969 as a domestic engineer for Loews Theater. She was a member of Queen Street Baptist Church. Survivors include daughters, Emma L. Winslow and Annie M. Daniels; a son, Richard Venters Jr., all of Norfolk; sisters, Annie Hobbs of St. Augustine, Fla., Sylvia Milhouse of Queens Village, N.Y., and Ophelia Ferguson of Jamaica, N.Y.; 12 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren; plus nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in Queen Street Baptist Church by the Rev. Peter Wherry. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery . Graves Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
