VERANGA of Norfolk, Virginia passed away peacefully on August 15, 2024. She was born in a little village of Sta. Teresa, Tubao, La Union, where everyone knows each other by first name, and where farming was the main way of life. Inspired by her ambition to get ahead for a better life, she went to college at the University of Manila, Philippines, where she graduated with a degree in Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. Teaching small children was her passion where she devoted much of her time as an educator. She taught at the City of Manila public schools including Boys Town for 23 years. After her teaching years, she transferred to Philippine Ports Authority where she made and developed lasting friendships with co-employees. It was in college where she met her future husband, a budding lawyer-to-be. After a whirlwind courtship and romance, they got married on May 13, 1962. Their conjugal partnership proved to be productive as they focused on their respective professions and establishing a solid family of their own. Seeking greener pastures, the family decided to move to the U.S. to settle in Norfolk, Virginia, where she worked at the MDV NAS Finc and her husband at the Newport News Department of Social Services, where they ultimately retired after a number of years. Both are long-standing parishioners of St. Pius X Catholic Church. Mrs. Carmen D. Veranga is survived by her husband, Atty. Sofio T. Veranga , her children Bernard D.
