Mr. Vesey was born Jan. 16, 1916, in Norfolk, the son of the late Harry B. and Alice Lynch Vesey. He graduated from Maury High School in 1934 and attended Virginia Military Institute, Class of 1938. Mr. Vesey served in the U.S. Army in World War II, and was in the Virginia National Guard 111th Field Artillery Battalion, served as Battalion executive officer and was formerly Battery commander of the Norfolk Light Artillery Blues. He was a former member of the Virginia Club and SERTOMA club of Norfolk and a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church. Mr. Vesey was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Henderson Vesey, and his sister, Virginia Woodward. Survivors include a daughter, Susan Parker and her husband, Neil; two grandsons, Brian R. Parker and Joshua V. Parker; a stepdaughter, Pat Venson; and a niece, Ginger Gast. A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at Elmwood Cemetery by the Rev. Charles Joy. Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk Chapel. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to St. Andrew's Episcopal Church.
