Walker, With Record of 40 Years On Force, Succumbs To Illness John William Walker, retired police sergeant, and a policeman for 40 years, died yesterday morning at 7:50 o'clock at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mrs. and Mrs. C.W. Jarvis, 2717 Ballentine Boulevard, after a short illness. Sergeant Walker originally was appointed to the police force of Atlantic City February 13, 1884 and became a member of the Norfolk force December 20, 1902, after Atlantic City became a part of Norfolk. He was a native of Amherst County and had resided in this city for 66 years. He was 78 years old and was a son of John W. and Mrs. Martha Walker. Mr. Walker became a sergeant April 15, 1911 and was retired from active duty January 1, 1924. He resided at 223 16 1/2 Street. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Jarvis, Mrs. S.W. Cuthriell and Mrs. Charles E. Thomas; one son, John William Walker, Jr. and three grandchildren, Charles W. Jarvis, Jr., John Walker Jarvis and Jane Dunlee Thomas. Funeral services will be conducted at St. Mary's Catholic Church Monday morning at 10 o'clock. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. ******************************************************************************** WALKER, JOHN WILLIAM – At the residence of his son-in-law, C. W.
