Norfolk - Barbara J. Walker died December 11, 2015, at home after a long illness.

She was born and raised in Norfolk, VA. She graduated from Saint Joseph School and 
received a nursing certificate from Saint Luke Hospital, Pittsfield, 
Massachusetts. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Nursing from Norfolk State 
University.

She was a surgical nurse at Portsmouth Naval Hospital and a public health nurse, 
as well as a certified psychiatric nurse and case manager for CHAMPUS.

She was an active life-long member of the Basilica of Saint Mary of the Immaculate 
Conception and Secular Order of Discalced Carmelites of Our Lady of the 
Annuciation.

She is survived by her sister Vernice Shields of Norfolk, her sons Keith, of 
Hampton, VA; Michael, of Norfolk; Marcus, and daughter-in-law, Stacey Byers, of 
Bowie, MD; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; several nieces and 
nephews.

A mass of the resurrection will be offered at Noon, Friday, December 18 at the 
Basilica of Saint Mary of the Immaculate Conception, 232 Chapel Street by Father 
Jim Curran. Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Chapel. Condolences may be
