R. White Sons, No. 398 Water Street, where he was employed, Albert Walker, about fifteen years of age, residing at No. 324 Edwards Street, Portsmouth, was crushed to death yesterday afternoon about 5:30 o'clock. Death is supposed to have been instantaneous. The body of the unfortunate lad was badly mangled. There were no eye-witnesses, it seems to the accident. Young Walker has been employed on a drill press in the machine room since last January. It seems that yesterday afternoon late he was carrying a wheelbarrow of coal up on the elevator and while stooping over struck his head. The blow knocked him down, rendering the lad unconscious. The elevator, operated by steam, kept moving upwards and Walker was caught by the joists in the building. A fellow employe, a carpenter by the name of Mr. Frank, first discovered the boy and a few minutes later the body was extricated. It is believed that Walker never knew what struck him. His neck may have been broken. Medical aid was immediately summoned but nothing could be done for the boy. Patrolman Watson made an investigation. The body was removed to Smith's undertaking establishment to be prepared for burial. ********************************************************************* The funeral of George A.
