He was known as ``The Duke'' and ``Reg.'' Born in Norfolk, he had retired from the Norfolk Public School System. Mr. Walker was a member of Queen Street Baptist Church, Norfolk. Mr. Walker was baptized at St. Mark RZUA as a child of Lamberts Point and as an adult, was the former organist and member of Queen Street Baptist Church. Afterwards, he was an organist for Noble Street Baptist Church of Portsmouth, Jerusalem Baptist Church of Norfolk, and, at his death, the organist for Bethel Baptist Church, Reservoir Ave., Norfolk. He was a member of the National Educators Association, American Board Directors Association, Virginia Music Educators Association, Tidewater Area Musician's Association, Virginia Band and Orchestra Director's Association, Music Educators National Association, Musician's Education Conference, American Federation of Musicians, and Omega Psi Phi Fraternity. Mr. Walker received awards and recognition for appreciation for his diligence and dedication to helping others. Among them are Center Stage Inc., Virginia Band and Directors Association, Norfolk Public School Board, Queen Street Baptist Church. The Booker T. Washington students from the classes of 1966 to 1975, Elementary Resource Teachers, God's Generation Choir, City of Norfolk proclaimed R.D. Walker Day on May 10, 1986 and in 1997, Marching Bookers Band Alumni 1997. Survivors include two daughters, Wendy Walker Hinton of Jacksonville, Fla., and Sabrina Walker Vann of Clinton, Md.; a two sons, Reginald DeSoto Walker Jr. of San Antonio, Texas, and Z.Z.J. Abijah Thihahfuhluhswalker of Norfolk; his mother, Maggie L. Walker; his father, James W. Walker; a sister, Barbara W. Copeland of Norfolk; a brother, Russell C. Walker of Norfolk; grandchildren, Jerry W. Hinton Jr., Jabulani Jumoke Hinton, Regina Walker, Renee Walker, Shirley Walker, Reginald Walker III, Garfield Vann Jr., Kanika Vann, Nikita Vann, Eric Vann, Christine Walker and Tobias Walker; and a great-granddaughter, Renita D. Walker. A funeral will be conducted at noon today in Queen Street Baptist Church, Norfolk, by Pastor Peter Wherry. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery . The procession will leave Hale Funeral Home at 11 a.m. Mr. Walker will repose in state from 10 a.m. to noon the day of the funeral.
