Virginian Pilot and The Norfolk Landmark April 8, 1925

Mrs. Sallie Willie Wallace, aged 77, one of the best known and highly 
esteemed women of Berkley, died yesterday afternoon at 4:45 o'clock after 
several days' illness at the home of her nephew, Harry M. Chewning, 201 W. 
Berkley Avenue.  Her condition had not been regarded as serious and the 
sudden end was unexpected.  She had been sitting up chatting with friends 
during the day.
Mrs. Wallace was the widow of Dr. George W. Wallace, who was a pioneer 
druggist and practicing physician of Berkley.
Mrs. Wallace was a native of Albemarle County, Va. and was a daughter of the 
late John W. and Mary Strange Chewning.  She is survived by four sisters, 
Mrs. A.D. Addison, Eastville; Mrs. H. Magruder, Albermarle County; Mrs. E.M. 
Tutwiler, Birmingham, Ala. and Mrs. Arthur Morgan, Raleigh, N.C. and four 
brothers, John W., Gideon and Strange Chewning, Florida and Harry M. 
Chewning, Norfolk.
Two of Mrs. Wallace's sisters, Mrs. Addison and Mrs. Tutwiler, are at 
present in Europe.
Mrs. Wallace was an active member of Armstrong Memorial Presbyterian Church 
and was actively identified with its organizations as well as with 
philanthropic organizations of the community.  The body was taken to the 
funeral home of J.R. Williams, 13 Chesapeake Avenue, South Norfolk, for 
preparation for burial.   Funeral arrangements had not been completed last 
night.
