Virginian Pilot January 15, 1971

Retired Navy Lt. Matthew Francis Walsh, 76, of 3612 Amherst St., died Thursday 
afternoon in Portsmouth Naval Hospital.
A native of Taunton, Mass., he lived here a number of years. He was a member of 
Christ the King Catholic Church. 
He retired after service of 34 years including World War II.
He was a son of Frank and Mrs. Sarah Kennedy Walsh.
He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Nancy Gerloff Walsh; three daughters, Mrs. 
Mary Evans of Norfolk and Mrs. Carol Heath and Mrs. Sheron Casey of Richmond; 
two sons, Matthew F. Walsh Jr. of Chesapeake and Edward Walsh of Norfolk; and a 
brother Harry A. Walsh of Worcester, Mass.
The Office of the Dead will be said in H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartment Sunday at 
7:30 p.m.
A Requiem Mass will be celebrated in Christ the King Catholic Church Monday at 
10 a.m. Burial, with full military honors, will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.

WALSH, MATTHEW FRANCIS - At a local hospital Thursday, January 14, 1971, MATTHEW 
FRANCIS WALSH, husband of Mrs. Nancy Gerloff Walsh and a son of the late Frank 
and Mrs. Sarah Kennedy Walsh, in the 77th year of his age.
A Requiem Mass will be celebrated in Christ the King Catholic Church, Monday, 
January 18, 1971, at 10 a.m. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery. The Office 
of the Dead will be recited in H. D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, Norfolk, Sunday 
at 7:30 p.m. Friends of the family are invited to attend.
