"Rip" Walters, 61, of the 1300 block of East Bayview Blvd., died Aug. 1, 2002 at home. A native of Norfolk, he was a member of the lost class of 1959 at Granby High School and attended Old Dominion University. Following college he served with the Army National Guard. He was one of the original members of the Ocean View Aces and was a former member of the Lion's Club of Ocean View. He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Norfolk for 52 years. A certified public accountant, Mr. Walters owned Walters and Walters CPA Inc. on Bayview Boulevard. An avid fisherman, he enjoyed the outdoors and loved Ocean View. Survivors include his wife, Evelyn F. Walters; his mother, Rose Pridgen; his daughter, Stephanie Davenport and her husband Brian, all of Norfolk; his son, Richard C. ''Rip'' Walters of Virginia Beach; his stepson, George Viar of Surry County, Va.; his stepdaughter, Jodi Masoncup and her husband Robert of Cumberland, Md.; and grandchildren, Payton and Hillary Davenport and Clark, Savannah, Charolette and Genevieve Masoncup. A funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday at Christ United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the Norfolk Chapel of H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts. Sunday afternoon from 3 to 5 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Hospice Society or Christ United Methodist Church in his name. Following the funeral services, a celebration of Rip's life will be held at the Thirsty Camel, you all know where that is.
