She was born in Philadelphia, Pa., grew up in Miami, Fla., and came to Norfolk when she married in 1938 and had lived her ever since. She was a retired management assistant from the Naval Supply Center and was a member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, Ocean View Recreational Center Bridge Club, and a former member of the American Women's Business Association. She also tutored to slow readers at Northside Middle School. She was predeceased by her son, G. Richard "Richie" Walton of Norfolk. She is survived and dearly loved by her daughter, Jean H. Turpin and husband, E.W. "Woody" Turpin of Norfolk; three grandchildren, David R. Hopkins and Kristine H. Stoiber, both of Norfolk, and Jennifer J. Walton of Virginia Beach; a brother, F.S. Davenport of Indiatlantic, Fla.; three great-grandsons, T. Lane Hopkins, Gavin P. Stoiber and Alec P. Stoiber, all of Norfolk; a niece, Sylvia J. Veith of Atlanta, Ga.; and a first cousin, Judge Ellen J. Morphonios of Miami. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Norfolk, by Chaplain Pat Holden. A memorial reception will follow at the home of her daughter. Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel, is handling arrangements. There are no set visitation hours, however friends may call at the funeral home after noon today.
