Mr. William Ward, one of our oldest citizens, died on Friday night at his residence on York Street, after a long and painful illness. Mr. Ward was born in New York, but has resided here for the past 65 years, having been only 10 years old upon his arrival. He was in business here for the larger portion of his life and was, at one time, a contractor for provisions for the navy. His business, as well as his private life, was blameless and his acts have always been above suspicion. He was for a long period a member of the Mechanics' Benevolent Society, an organization of which we believe his was one of the originators. Although his long career was spent in private life, there was none more highly respected and esteemed in the community, and none will be more deeply and sincerely mourned. The funeral will take place at half-past 4 o'clock this afternoon, from his late residence, No. 60 York Street.
