She and her husband moved to Murfreesboro, N.C., following his retirement in 1969. They lived there for 25 years. She was a homemaker, a self-taught artist and writer, and was a willing volunteer in activities of her church and community. She was the daughter of the late Bertie May Sweet and John Samuel Pettus, and was the wife of the late Henry Grady Warren. Mrs. Warren attended Meherrin Baptist Church in Murfreesboro, was a member of the Norfolk chapter of the Veterans of WWI Auxiliary and the Murfreesboro Senior Citizens Center. In 1987, she was awarded a certificate of appreciation for her volunteer services by the governor of North Carolina. Survivors include a daughter, May Warren Richardson, and her husband, Dr. George S. Richardson, of Pittsburgh; three grandchildren, George Stevens Richardson Jr. and John Garris Richardson, both of Pittsburgh, and Carol Warren Richardson Drew of Battle Creek, Mich.; and five great-grandchildren. A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in the chapel of Cox Funeral Home by the Rev. Phyllis R. Earley of Epworth United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery. The family will be present for visitation in the chapel one hour prior to the service.
