Virginian-Pilot, February 23, 1901
C L WARREN - A jury of inquest held by Coroner Batts yesterday rendered a 
verdict to the effect that C L Warren, the aged man found dead Thursday morning 
aboard the Old Dominion Liner Jamestown, came to his death from a pistol bullet 
fired into the head just above the tip of the ear, with suicidal intent.
Capt. Ira W Tapley, commander of the Jamestown, and Jefferson L Fisher were the 
only witnesses who appeared in the case.
Emblems and tattoo marks about the body of the deceased went to show that the 
man had been a Knight Templar, and Grice Commandery No. 16 of Norfolk was given 
charge of the remains. The funeral will take place Sunday morning from H D 
Oliver's undertaking establishment.
