Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - Wednesday, July 30, 1997 
Gladys Tyler Washington, 86, formerly of the 1200 block of W. 39th St., died
Monday, July 28, 1997, in Harbour Pointe Rehabilitation Center.

She was a native of Norfolk and the daughter of the late Mansie (Buck) and
Florence Christian Tyler and the widow of Edgar E. Washington. She was a devoted
member of the Norfolk Methodist Church and was active in many phases of church
life including the senior usher board, the United Methodist Women and was the
chaplain for the group. She was a retired civil service employee with 30 years
of service at Fort Norfolk and the U.S. Public Health Hospital.

She is survived by a daughter, Hilda F. Tyler and a brother, Stanley L. Tyler.

A funeral will be conducted at noon Saturday in Norfolk United methodist Church
by the Rev. Finley O. Jones. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery . Viewing will
be Friday from 2 to 8 p.m. in Riddick Funeral Service. The body will be placed
in church at 10:30 a.m. The family will be at the home of her daughter at 3538
Bapaume Ave.
