Being the second oldest daughter she took on the chores to help raise her brothers and sisters. During World War II she came to Norfolk and worked at the Naval Air Base. She later went back to Norfolk and attended seamstress school. She then returned to Norfolk and later married Moses Washington. She worked at a boutique in downtown Norfolk. Not having any children of her own, she took care of her sister's oldest son, Moses Green, and during the summer months she helped her youngest sister Ruth. In 1968 she accepted the responsibility of caring for her aging mother and her sister Rose's three children, Michael, 16, Rosemary, 10, and Susan, 7. Not wanting to accept public assistance, she took on a second job cleaning houses and helping out her cousin, Alice Holloway in her catering business to make ends meet. After her nephew and nieces graduated from high school and left home, she moved to Cogic Senior Citizen's High Rise and joined Covenant Presbyterian Church where she had been a faithful member. Between her apartment and church she lead a very active life until her death. She was very loved by her family and friends. She leaves behind four sisters, Mary Taylor of Richmond, Evelyn Hart of Tacoma, Wash., Ethel Green of Richmond and Ruth Greene of Shaker Heights, Ohio; two brothers, Randolph Taylor and James Taylor, both of Richmond; numerous cousins, nephews and nieces including her special nephew, Michael Taylor of Dallas, Texas; nieces, Rosemary Waters-Lindo of Upper Marlboro, Md. and Susan Lee of Suffolk. We will miss her dearly. A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 913 Covenant St., Norfolk. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery , Norfolk.
