Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - Saturday, May 1, 1999 
James Howard Washington, 86, of the 3700 block of Wedgefield Ave., died April
28, 1999, at Lake Taylor Hospital, Norfolk.

Born in Vanceboro, N.C., Mr. Washington, known as ``Popeye'' and ``Spico'',
retired in 1982 as a pipefitter and received a plaque for 21 years of service.
He was a member of Ingleside Civic League and Norshipco Retiree Association.

The widower of Marie Washington, he is survived by his mother, Polly Anne
Washington; a grandchild, Angelo Washington; four nieces; three nephews; two
goddaughters; and a host of great-nieces and -nephews and friends. He was
predeceased by his daughter, Doris Washington.

A funeral will be held at noon Monday at Hale Funeral Home Chapel, Norfolk, by
the Rev. Edward Shambry Jr. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery .
