Norfolk Virginian Pilot Thursday January 31, 1946
Mrs. Estelle J. Watkins, 85, wife of the late Dempsey Watkins; died at the 
residence, 4200 Newport Avenue, yesterday at 12:30 p.m. after an illness of 
12 days.
Daughter of the late James A. and Caroline Lester Vaughan, she was a native 
of Isle of Wight County and had been a resident of Norfolk for 58 years.  
She was a member of Freemason Street Baptist Church.
Surviving are two daughters, Miss Mary E. Watkins, of Norfolk, and Mrs. 
Lillie Watkins Corey, Albany, N.Y.; one sister, Mrs. W.H. Ballard, Franklin; 
one grandson and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Cox Funeral Home Friday at 11 a.m. 
by the Dr. Sparks W. Melton, pastor of the Freemason Street Baptist Church.  
Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
