Teresa Cecelia Bailey Watts, 87, of 5521 Berryhill Road, gently entered into 
eternal rest on Dec. 21, 1995, in her home.

She was the daughter of the late Dr. Josiah Bailey and Nietta Cecelia Jordan 
Bailey, and was a native and lifelong resident of Norfolk. She was educated at 
John T. West Elementary School as a child, and graduated from St. Joseph's 
Catholic High School in 1926. She played C Melody saxophone in St. Joseph's High 
School Marching Band, which was selected to play in the first Miss America Pageant 
in Atlantic City, N.J. She attended Hampton Institute where she majored in home 
economics, but left to marry her high school sweetheart, the late Robert L. Watts 
Sr. She was a faithful member of St. Basilica of St. Mary's of the Immaculate 
Conception, where she was a past member of the Women's Club. She was also a past 
resident of Lambert's Point. She was predeceased by her parents, Dr. Josiah and 
Nietta Cecelia Jordan Bailey; her husband, Robert L. Watts Sr.; her son, Robert L. 
Watts Jr.; a sister, Gertrude M. Lacey; and two brothers, Reginald M. Bailey and 
Eugene F. Bailey.

Survivors include four daughters, Jean D. Whidbee of Greensboro, N.C., Ann W. King 
of Norfolk, Teresa C. Brickhouse of Norfolk and Angela W. Leary of Virginia Beach; 
three sons, Clarence A. Watts Sr. of Norfolk, Eugene F. Watts of Greensboro and 
John B. Watts of Hampton; three sons-in-law, Hamilton B. King of Norfolk, Leland 
Brickhouse of Norfolk and Ronald L. Leary Sr. of Norfolk; two daughters-in-law, 
Sara Watts of Norfolk and Glenda Watts of Hampton; 38 grandchildren; 66 great-
grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; five nephews; eight nieces; a first 
cousin, Bertha J. Jones; and a host of grandnieces, grandnephews, great-nieces, 
great-nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.

A Christian Mass will be held at Basilica of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception 
at noon Wednesday, Dec. 27, 1995. A Rosary service will be held Tuesday, Dec. 26, 
1995, at 6 p.m. at Riddick Funeral Home, Norfolk. Burial will be in St. Mary's 
Cemetery. The family will receive visitors and friends at the home of Ann W. King, 
5521 Berryhill Road, Norfolk.
