Meriwether and Mrs. Mary Susan Gordon Winston, died at a Roanoke hospital Wednesday following an illness of several months. A native of Hanover County, Mrs. Weck had been a resident of Norfolk since early childhood. She had been with her daughter, Mrs. Thomas A. Smothers, in Roanoke, since June. Mrs. Weck had resided at 1201 Graydon Avenue before leaving Norfolk. Mrs. Weck was a member of Freemason Street Baptist Church and was actively interested in the affairs of the church, having served as president of the Fellowship Class of the Sunday School for 20 years and as president of the Women's Missionary Society. In addition to her daughter, she is survived by three grandchildren, Jack Merritt Gwaltney, Anne Meriwether Smothers, and Thomas A. Smothers, Jr., all of Roanoke. The body will arrive in Norfolk today and will be taken to the Cox Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at the Freemason Street Baptist Church Saturday at noon by pastor, Dr. Sparks W. Melton. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
