Norfolk Journal and Guide, Aug 14,1954
Funeral services were held at 3:30 p.m. Aug. 8 at Hale’s Funeral Chapel for James 
Wellons, 12, who drowned shortly before noon Aug. 4 in the hold of an abandoned 
ship near the Norfolk and Western Railway trestle at the Elizabeth River.  The 
Rev. Charlie Faulcon officiated.

James is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Wellons, and one brother.  
Burial was in Calvary Cemetery with Hale’s Funeral Home in charge.
