Melvin B. Wells Sr. of the 1000 block of Dubose Drive died July 2, 2004. A 
native of Hagerstown, Md., he retired from the U.S. Postal Service. He was a 
member of New Covenant Fellowship Church and the Male Chorus. He was also a 
member of Spartan Booster and NAACP. 

He is survived by his wife, Rosemary Wells; five daughters, Carolyn Simmons, 
Marsha Jones and Shana Johnson, all of Norfolk, T. Diane Bozorth of Chesapeake 
and Frances Harris of Vineland, N.J.; two sons, Melvin B. Wells Jr. of 
Chesapeake and Darnell Wells of Michigan; two sisters, Fannie Lockett of Norfolk 
and Adel Scott of Virginia Beach; 14 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and 
a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. 

A funeral will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in Covenant Presbyterian Church of 
Norfolk by the Rev. Clyde Doxey. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery . Viewing 
will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday. Community Funeral Home is in charge.
