Virginian Pilot Sunday February 17 1901

Samuel J. Wescott, a well known citizen, died Friday night at 9 o'clock at his 
home on Washington and Lee streets, aged 75 years.  He leaves one son who 
resides in Elizabeth City, N.C.  The deceased was a soldier in the Union army 
during the civil war, during which he was wounded.  He drew a pension.
The funeral will be conducted from the residence this afternoon at 4 o'clock by 
Rev. W. Asbury Christian officiating and the interment will be in Magnolia 
Cemetery.

The funeral of the late Mr. Samuel J. Wescott was held from his late residence 
Sunday afternoon at 4 o'clock, Rev. W. Asbury Christian officiating, after which 
the remains were interred in Magnolia Cemetery.  The following were the 
pallbearers:  Wilson Beale, W.T. Topping, Severn Webb, Nicholas Knight, Barney 
McManus and Mr. Finch.
