WEST DIED YESTERDAY Well Known Citizen and a Former Shoe Merchant in Berkley Ward Harry L. West, one of the best known citizens and shoe dealers in the ward for about fifteen years, died yesterday morning at 3:40 o'clock after a lingering illness from a complication of diseases. On account of ill health Mr. West retired from business last summer and went to New York state for his health, where he underwent an operation. For a while his condition improved, but soon turned for the worse and he continued to grow worse until the end. Mr. West was a big hearted man and there were few men in the ward who made more friends. He was 46 years old and was born in Portsmouth, but moved to Berkley ward with his people while a young man, where he had since resided. He was a member of the board of stewards of Memorial M.E. Church, having been a member of the church for many years. He is survived by a widow and two children, two brothers and three sisters. His wife is a daughter of Dr. Geo. H. Ray, of the Methodist conference. Dr. Ray arrived here yesterday to attend the funeral, which will take place from Memorial M.E. Church this afternoon at 3 o'clock. The services will be conducted by the pastor, Rev. T. McN. Simpson and the interment will be in Magnolia Cemetery.
