West, a native of Lunenburg County, and one of the best known women of the Southside, died last night at 6:50 at her home, 118 Hardy Avenue after an illness of several years. Mrs. West had been a resident of this community for 40 years and in her younger life was actively engaged in church and social welfare work. She was an active member of Memorial Methodist Church, Niemeyer-Shaw Chapter, Daughters of the Confederacy and for a long term of years was president of the local chapter of the King's Daughters. Mrs. West was a daughter of the late Rev. George H. and Mrs. Virginia Chambers Scott Ray and is survived by two children, Harry Ray West and Miss Frances Lee West, of this city, and two brothers, Dr. A.C. Ray, Ashland and the Rev. George H. Ray, of Amherst County. The body was taken to the J.R. Williams Funeral Home, 1027 Chesapeake Avenue, pending funeral arrangements. ************************************************************************ WEST, MRS. FRANCES RAY - At the family residence, 118 Hardy Avenue, a native of Lunenburg County, Va., and a resident of Berkley 40 years, MRS. FRANCES RAY WEST, widow of Harry L. West and daughter of the late Rev. George H. and Mrs. Virginia Chambers Scott Ray, aged 65 years. The body was removed to the J.R. Williams Funeral Home, 1027 Chesapeake Avenue, South Norfolk and will be taken back to the residence Tuesday morning. Funeral will be conducted TUESDAY AFTERNOON at 3 o'clock in Memorial Methodist Church. Burial in Magnolia Cemetery. Please omit flowers.
