Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - Tuesday, September 7, 1999 
Sandy G. West Sr. of the 800 block of Hayes St., a native of Swan Quarter, N.C.,
departed this life Aug. 29, 1999, at a local hospital.

Born Feb. 1, 1909, to the late Wallace and Amanda Weston, Mr. West was a
longtime resident of Norfolk, and a retired longshoreman, Local 1248. He was
baptized at an early age in Swan Quarter.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 35 years, Georgia West, and is survived
by a daughter, Elmyria Wilder of Staten Island, N.Y., and Elmyria's sister,
Frances Woody, also of Staten Island; a son, Sandy G. West Jr. of Norfolk; a
brother, Melvin Melton of Norfolk; a host of nieces, including special nieces
Judy Chavis of Hermit, Calif., and Barbara Douglas of Patterson, N.J.;
great-nieces, nephews, cousins and lifetime friend and former wife Odessa James.

A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Graves Funeral Home. Interment
will be in Calvary Cemetery .
