A native of Norfolk he was a son of Mrs. Ruth Wetzel Smith and the late William Wetzel. He was a clerk at the Post Office Department, Norfolk Naval Air Station, 18 years. He was a member of St. Matthew's Catholic Church, Legion of the Moose 199, Portsmouth, and United Federation of Postal Clerks Local 262, Norfolk. Besides his mother, surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Ruth W. Ulrich of Virginia Beach and Mrs. Madge Traylor of Norfolk. The body will be taken from Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Indian River Chapel, to St. Matthew's Catholic Church for a Requiem Mass Tuesday at 10 a.m. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. The Office of the Dead will be said tonight at 8 in the funeral home. The family will be at the sister's home, 812 Neptune Ave., Virginia Beach.
