M. WHEELOCK, 78, FORMER NORFOLK PRINTER Clarence M. Wheelock, 78, labor leader in Tidewater, died Thursday in Printers Hospital, Colorado Springs, Colo. He came to Norfolk in 1927 and was a monotype operator for The Virginian-Pilot and Ledger-Star several years. For a time he was president and secretary of the Norfolk and Portsmouth Typographical Union and active in the Central Labor Union for years. He also was a deputy commissioner of the State Federation of Labor and a Masonic leader. He had been in the hospital since February, when he left Norfolk for treatment. He was a native of North Adams, Mass. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Rachel Wheelock; two daughters, Mrs. R.L. Wood of Norfolk and Mrs. Harry L. Mitchell of Richmond; eight grandchildren and a great- grandchild. A funeral service will be held in Ewell & Williamson Funeral Home Sunday at 2 p.m. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
