Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - Wednesday, November 20, 1991 
Charlie J. Whitaker of the 4800 block of Shafer St., a retired cemetery
caretaker, died Nov. 18, 1991, in a hospital.

Mr. Whitaker had retired from the City of Norfolk at Calvary Cemetery . He was
born in Tarboro, N.C., where he was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Emma Lee Kearney Whitaker; four daughters, Annie R.
Gilbert of New York City, Barbara J. Jenkins and Michele Whitaker, both of
Norfolk, and Sylvia L. Richmond of Columbus, Ga.; five sons, Charles A. Whitaker
and Louis Whitaker, both of New York City, Stanley Whitaker and Michael
Whitaker, both of Norfolk, and Leroy Whitaker of Virginia Beach; three sisters,
Alberta Bellamy of Tarboro, N.C., Mary Lee Pittman of Washington, D.C., and
Myniza Jones of Scotland Neck, N.C.; a brother, Clarence Whitaker of Newport
News; 18 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday in Macedonia United Church of
Christ by the Rev. A.D. Wright. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery . Family and
friends will assemble at noon at 4817 Shafer St. for the procession.
Metropolitan Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
