Cornelia Whitaker of the 1200 block of Timberlake Court, a retired domestic 
engineer, died Jan. 25, 1993. 

Mrs. Whitaker was born in Tarboro, N.C. She was a member and deaconess of Shiloh 
Baptist Church, where she also served on the (NU)1 Usher Board, and was a member 
of Huntersville Senior Citizens. She was the widow of Thurston Whitaker. 

Survivors include four daughters, Cornelia Whitney and Maxine Lewis, both of 
Norfolk, Christine Hayes of Virginia Beach and Bernice Howard of Washington, 
D.C.; six sons, John H. Whitaker of Virginia Beach, Horace and James Whitaker, 
both of Chesapeake, Joseph Whitaker of Philadelphia, Raymond Whitaker of Norfolk 
and Andrew Whitaker of Charlotte, N.C.; a brother, John Pittman of Boston; 35 
grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren. 

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday in Shiloh Baptist Church by the 
Rev. John Foster. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery . Friends may join the 
family at 1200 Timberlake Court. The family will assemble at 1128 Wall St. on 
Friday. The body will be taken to the church at 10:30 a.m. Graves Funeral Home 
is in charge.
