White, age 62, were conducted Tuesday, May 26, at 3 p.m. by the Revs. J. R. Johnson and Walter L. Hildbrand from the St. John AME Church. Mr. White, of 891 Avenue A died Friday, May 22 at Kecoughtan Veterans hospital after a long illness. He was a native of Cape Charles and had lived in Norfolk for more than 50 years. He was custodian in the Old Norfolk Municipal market for 30 years up to the time of its closing when he became custodian of the Police Court until his retirement in 1958 due to illness. A Navy veteran of World War I, he was a member of the Eastern Light Masonic Lodge 4, A.F. and A.M., the Royal Beneficial and Social Club and a member of St. John AME church. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Alice B. White; one sister, Mrs. Charlotte White of New York City; one brother William S. White of Norfolk. Burial was with full military honors in Calvary Cemetery with the B. F. King Funeral home in charge.
